COWETA COUNTY, GEORGIA INFORMATION AND REAL ESTATE SEARCH![]() FORMED: June 9, 1825 Coweta is pronounced "Cow-eeta" or "Ky-eeta" COUNTY SEAT: Newnan HISTORY: Coweta County, GA came from the name of the Coweta Creek Indians. When William McIntosh, Jr. (half-Scott, half Creek) became chief, he deeded the lands to the Federal government. Newnan was named for General Daniel Newnan. He fought in the Indian Wars, the War of 1812, and served in the Georgia General Assembly.
